Sometimes I wonder what God has up His sleeve. My hubby and I were talking about coincidences (we agree they don't exist, not in things of any importance). I feel many coincidences are actually opportunities to go back and fix something we didn't get right the first time around, to show compassion for someone who's been angry with you in the past, to help someone who perhaps has helped you, to appreciate someone in a new light, all because the circles of your lives have intersected again, a cosmic Venn diagram.
One of my favorite speakers gave an analogy of people as a spokes on a bicycle wheel. At times we are at the top of the wheel, enjoying the sun and fresh air as we roll along. But eventually - inevitably - we roll around to the bottom, and it is there we must taste the dust, grit and mud. As the wheel turns, our perspective changes. Near the top, we're happy, but a little smug at what we've accomplished, how much higher we are than ol' Dusty down at the bottom. As we begin to feel the rocks and the light from above dims, we can look up and see those above us, connected to us by the hub of the wheel. That connection is what pulls us forward, preventing the wheel from becoming useless. Held together by the hub, all the spokes can perform their function, all can move forward, through good times and bad.
