Agreeing

I've been getting some practice in the application of the scripture, "Agree with thine adversary quickly," and learning why this is a good idea.

I always thought this instruction counter-intuitive. Why would you agree with someone who disagrees with you? I could see agreeing - as in being "agreeable" - so there would be better feelings between you. But still, one person was usually right and the other wrong, right?

Wrong.

Without the good feelings, you are less likely to come to an agreement at all. Most disagreements aren't a clear choice between right or wrong, but differing points of view. I guess that's where pride comes in and mungs things up. Being right feels good. But being acknowledged as "victor" usually isn't necessary, or even good, I'm thinking.
